Permanent Residence in Romania

After maintaining legal temporary residence for 5 years, you can apply for permanent residence and enjoy nearly the same rights as Romanian citizens.

Bring Your Family to Romania

Once you have established legal residence in Romania, you can apply for family reunification to bring your loved ones to join you.

Sponsor Eligibility

You can sponsor family members if you hold:

  • Temporary residence permit (valid for 1+ year)
  • Permanent residence permit
  • EU Blue Card
  • ICT (Intra-Corporate Transferee) permit

Eligible Family Members

  • Spouse
    Legally married husband or wife
  • Minor Children
    Unmarried children under 18 (biological or adopted)
  • Dependent Parents
    First-degree relatives who cannot provide for themselves
  • Adult Children (Special Cases)
    Unmarried adult children unable to provide for themselves due to medical reasons

Family Reunification Process

Step 1: IGI Approval

Submit application to General Inspectorate for Immigration with required documents

Processing: 3 months

Step 2: Long-Stay Visa

Family members apply for D/VF visa at Romanian embassy in home country

Must apply within 60 days of approval

Step 3: Residence Permit

Upon arrival in Romania, apply for residence permit within 30 days

Valid for up to 5 years

What You'll Need

Documents for IGI Application:

  • Marriage certificate or birth certificate (translated, legalized/apostilled)
  • Notarized declaration of cohabitation
  • Proof of adequate accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient financial means (net minimum wage per family member)
  • Proof of health insurance enrollment

Documents for Visa Application:

  • IGI approval communication
  • Valid passport (at least 3 months beyond visa expiry)
  • Medical insurance covering visa validity period
  • Criminal record certificate (apostilled/superlegalized)
  • Two passport photos (3cm x 4cm)

Important: Visa application fee is €120 per family member. All documents must be translated into Romanian and properly legalized.
